SAFFA is dedicated to the promotion of fly fishing in South Australia together with the many qualities that it upholds both on and off the stream, river or lake.
Brown trout were first stocked into South Australian waters in 1879. Now over one hundred and twenty years later the pursuit of fly fishing is stronger than ever within Adelaide and its regional surrounds. Since 1947 SAFFA have actively fostered the art of fly fishing and accepted the position of unofficial custodians of many of South Australia's streams, winning Land Care awards, monitoring water quality and reporting incidences of poisoning. The function of SAFFA goes beyond that of a recreational fishing club. It is a committed and motivated body of like-minded enthusiasts who respect and value their environment and fishery.
Working under permit from the South Australian Government, SAFFA's trout hatchery is an integral part of South Australia's ability to offer a truly national and international pursuit at a local level. New members can look forward to participating in all aspects of a trout fishery from stocking days, to working in the hatchery, to learning about stream improvement and fishery management. The club has an eclectic mix of members who are passionate about fly fishing and the future of this valued recreational resource for South Australia.
