About SAFFA

Brown Trout were first stocked into South Australian waters in 1879. All these years later the pursuit of fly fishing is stronger than ever within Adelaide and its regional surrounds.

In 1947 a group of like minded fly fishers met and debated the possibilities of creating a body dedicated to the art of fly fishing in South Australia.

At the old Adelaide Royal Exchange Hotel in 1948 this group agreed to form a committee and the South Australian Fly Fishers Association was established. The founding committee consisted of the following

President: Cyril Malpas

Secretary: King McCarthy

Auditor: Alf Wark

Councillors: Hugh Buick, Trevor Crowhurst, Ern Davidson, Rob Wilson & L Marriot

Following this inaugural meeting SAFFA continues this tradition with the following gatherings of present day like minded fly fishers

  • Social meeting – Second Wednesday in each month, excluding January

  • Council meeting – Third Wednesday in each month

  • Fly Tying – Fourth Wednesday in each month, excluding December & January
